Swahili
Holla!☺
'Kiswahili kitukuzwe, lugha yetu ya taifa..' haha, who I'm i kidding,i cant even say a sentence in swahili. I dont even understand why they say "punde si punde", seriously, how is it not punde and they said punde?.its like saying "ndanu si ndanu"๐ . Me and swahili have had a very complex relationship. It all began many years ago in Mwangaza primary school (since 99% of humans who know me think my sense of direction is 'aaha!-mazing'; im going to skip the directions bit and just say that its a school in the heart of kayole).
Mrs Muturi had two roles, class teacher and the swahili/insha teacher. See most humans shorten my name to 'cele' when they cant pronounce it but she prefered to call me 'serraistain'. For some reason sheng ilikuwa imenikalia ,yaani ata sikutambua how people got more than 15 marks in insha. Ever since i can remember my inshas were used as the examples of the 'donts' .Our insha books had a special space on her table, they pilled inbetween the thermos flask, hotpot etc and her chalk box, handbag and text books.Everytime she was marking the inshas the whole class would await that bit where she stands up with chalk in her hands to turn my insha into a lesson.I cant forget to remember the pools of embarrassment that i would drown in as the whole class laughed sounding like dying camels ,mcheew! betrayers๐.
This one incident ,it was the final term just the one next to kcpe and all candidates were doing revision in the main hall (the one we used to do anga VBS,FFS or PPS,ptho! Whatever they called that occasion where we sang all the songs in the mornings and said our father, good old days๐). So on this occasion, our insha was about 'ajali barabarani' and since other teachers from our stream would mark our papers,i was determined to write a good insha.you know mrs Muturi had really tried to give me private tuitions. So i went like "tulipofika nyumbani, tukaelezewa na jirani ya kwamba mama ameenda sokoni.Mimi na kaka yangu tukaamua kumgoja kando ya barabara iliyokuwa karibu na nyumba yetu tukichoma mei.punde si punde akachomoka kijani fulani, jamaa alikua amekimbia yake yote hakutaza kando.Gari likatokea upande wa kulia likamkuta 'booom!...". As you can guess, the other teacher read it before the pupils. And Mrs Muturi just sat there and wondered why a good performer like me just sucked in swahili. Then i went to Tala girls and met the "mwalimu anasema nini?,mwalimu anasema myambuliko wa vitenzi vigugumizi" teacher and "nyalwe".(if u know u know๐๐). I like the poem abt zambarau or whatever they call those purplish tufruits,i spend most of my childhood ontop of that tree.
See,Mrs Muturi was really tired of my insha escapades but one thing i cant forget about her is :she believed in my leadership skills. She motivated me as a captain, she took my side so many a times. No matter how many times i sucked in insha she never at one point associated it with my leadership skills. Now,she was a sickling she passed on few years later (rumours). But she left a legacy, treasures in my selfesteem bank that neither rats or the mean old mother goose could destroy.
Im sure they didnt paint her pictures and put it in the famous world galaries. See,we really like getting an accolades,we love attention. The problem is during our quest for attention we dont stop to do a kind deed to the human race.Maya said, people forget what u do to them but they never forget how you make them feel.of course,i dpnt expect you to be all things to all people all the time but what will be your 'legacy'?.
Nimeenda hivi nacome.
